A chink in the armor of Democrat/Environmentalist demagoguery

A chink in the armor of Democrat/Environmentalist demagoguery is the price of gas, and McCain after his fashion found it, being the one to broach the subject of drilling, at least off-shore.  Now, President Bush has done the same:  Let’s drill.

If anything, this call by the president just may up his approval rates, which is something the Democrats don’t want.  What will distress them even more is the fact the problem of fuel prices is being laid at the feet of the Congress.

Bush is also wise by expressing concern for the environment while addressing a serious economic and national security problem, which do concern voters and may, just may, force Democrats to stop the demagoguery or face the possibility of being out of a job.

The possiblity of the Dems being voted out will increase as they do nothing and prices go up and their rhetoric stays the same.

Yes, Mars!

I wrote the following entry a few days ago, but didn’t have the chance to post it to the blog.  It’s late, but it’s here, and I still think it’s important.  Also, I doesn’t give me something to be enthusiastic about.

I’ve been waiting all my life for someone of political prominence to say NASA should direct their efforts toward putting a Man on Mars.

John McCain has finally said something I can be enthusiastic about:

"I am intrigued by a man on Mars and I think that it would excite the imagination of the American people if we can say, 'Hey, here's what it looks like," he said.

"We know that now, and here's what may be there and let's all join in that project. I think Americans would be very willing to do that."

Space travel and the colonization of another planet are about hope and real change that can be seen and touched, and not just words on a sign waved in front of a camera   Yes, I think Americans are willing.

For me, space has always been the direction, and the 60s Generation has disappointed me and many others intrigued with the possibility of a trip to Mars.  Simple fact is, we should be there already.  But we must keep in mind the generation which has ‘run’ things.

That generation has been too self-involved—nosey and really not driven to accomplish much.   Technology-wise so much is owned to the Apollo program which the Baby-Boom generation has had nothing to do with.  The whole group is living off the fat of the land, the work of a different generation, and has given nothing to its children except guilt and fear and self-loathing.

Space may be the only way to get away from them!

Message to Obama & McCain: Veeps Matter! And Others

Okay, I had this discussion with someone last Friday, and his general opinion is that stated that “VPs rarely do much good.”

Here at Townhall Matt Lewis has the form to state what I believe:

Message to Obama & McCain: Veeps Matter!

There's a good argument to be made that "Veep" picks don't impact elections.

But it is clearly the case that vice presidents can -- and do -- impact policy decisions.  For example, what might George W. Bush's presidency have been like if he had picked someone other than Dick Cheney?

And even if a VP doesn't have a major impact on the current administration, it is clear that the vice presidency can be a stepping stone to the White House.

It’s a short blog entry so go there are read the whole of it.

In conjunction with my other thoughts about the importance of the VP is McCain’s age.  He will be the oldest president elected.  But to get there he will have to make piece with the Conservative base and the VP position maybe the only why he can swing it.  Also, he doesn’t have coattails—who’s he going to pull into the Congress—more democrats?  As the MSM starts to really beat him up—what will his thoughts turned to?  How nice he used to be treated?
